According to Shmyhal, Ukraine uses financial assistance from the EU to a large extent for the social needs of the people and for reconstruction.

Ukrainians may be left without salaries and pensions if the EU stops funding Ukraine within the promised 9 billion euros, Prime Minister Shmyhal said in his interview for Frankfurter Allgemeine, UNIAN reports.

“We need this to keep our financial system alive. Whether it becomes a loan or a grant is less important. We have already exhausted all the savings. Today, the defense budget accounts for 60% of our government spending, and we use financial assistance from our partners to a large extent for the social needs of the people and for reconstruction. Any delay here could have dire consequences”, the Prime Minister stressed.

According to him, today the losses from the war with Russia have grown to more than 700 billion dollars.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of developing a mechanism for the confiscation of Russian assets, and then investing the proceeds in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“Such a mechanism will first target Russia, but later may become the cornerstone of a future global security system. In the future, every dictator must know that he is responsible for aggression with his wealth”, Shmyhal summarized.
